This position is for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year. Benefits are available and salary is paid based on the BTA salary schedule.

 

HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER

 

JOB GOAL:  In a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth:

  1. To help students learn subject matter, skills, attitudes and appreciations that are appropriate to their individual needs and levels of learning, and which will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.
  2. To discover and develop students’ special talents.

           

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Possess appropriate certification and degree(s).
  2. Has knowledge of children based on both formal learning and/or practical experience.
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

REPORTS TO: Principal

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:                                                             Understands Child Growth and Development

  1. Maintains responsibility for relating teaching methods and materials to the growth and development of students.
  2. Considers the interest level and attention span of students in all learning activities.
  3. Makes allowances for potential differences in intellectual maturity levels in learning activities within class groups.
  4. Recognizes symptoms of vastly superior and inferior pupil performance and seeks appropriate referrals.
  5. Demonstrates the use of a vocabulary appropriate to students.
  6. Uses and know social physical, mental and emotional traits as a basis for learning and teaching.
  7. Displays initiative and creativity in providing learning activities.

Planning and Evaluating Student Learning

  1. Plans for a long range and short range instructional program consistent with school/team/system curriculum.
    1. Long range – Units to be covered for the year approximate timeframe; general outcomes (goals) for each unit.
    2. Short range – Objectives for present unit; weekly plan of objectives and activities.
  2. Develops a one-day lesson plan for substitute (activities or skills).
  3. Diagnoses learning needs of students using appropriate instruments.
  4. Uses results of unit or weekly assessments to continue or modify student learning and teacher plans.
  5. Provides instruction in those skills and processes necessary for learning the subject being taught.
  6. Takes care to inform students of long-range and weekly goals or objectives.
  7. Insures clear, objective and timely reports are offered to students and parents of student progress.
  8. Keeps appropriate records, administers and uses standardized tests and prepares progress reports.
  9. Uses outside assignments to enrich and/or reinforce curriculum objectives.

 Classroom Management

  1. Organizes the physical environment to provide for basic comfort, health and safety of students.
  2. Provides climate conducive to the lesson(s).
  3. Encourages students to assist in the development of positive, reasonable, consistent rules of classroom behavior or self-discipline.
  4. Conducts the routine and clerical chores with efficiency, accuracy and promptness.
  5. Cooperates with the team(s) in sharing space and materials.
  6. Uses the instructional program, where appropriate, to encourage citizenship and responsibility.
  7. Manages full use of class time for instruction/learning.
  8. Uses community resource, where appropriate.
  9. Solicits appropriately the help of parents, resource staff and administrator(s) as aids to classroom management.

 Interpersonal Relationships

  1. Demonstrates and reinforces mutual respect among students.
  2. Uses positive reinforcement and encouragement with students.
  3. Cooperates with fellow teachers, administrators, and other staff to maintain a positive school and system climate.
  4. Listens to and respects the opinions of other staff.
  5. Communicates effectively with staff and parents
  6. Fosters tolerance and understanding of ethnic, cultural, racial and religious differences.

  1. Participates in curriculum development or review.

  5. Utilizes prescribed district and association channels for solving problems or grievances in a constructive manner.
  6. Uses oral and written English correctly in the exercise of the professional assignment.

  8. Cooperates in the development and support of school and system policies.
