Special Education Personal Care Teacher Assistant

 

JOB GOAL:  To assist school staff in meeting individualized student and program needs.

           

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. One year of college required; two years of college preferred.
  2. Physical condition so as to be able to manage behavior/physically challenged students; must have the ability to lift 50 pounds.
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Principal or Director of Special Education/Designee may find appropriate or acceptable.

 

REPORTS TO:  Principal 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

THIS POSITION IS INDIVIDUALIZED DUE TO UNIQUE NEEDS OF STUDENTS AND PROGRAMS. DAILY DIRECTION OF THE PCTA IS PROVIDED BY THE SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER TO WHOM THE PCTA IS ASSIGNED. 

  1. Demonstrate ethical behavior and maintain confidentiality of student information.
  2. Current restraint program certification.
  3. Awareness of identified student health concerns, monitor/assist as appropriate in collaboration with teacher and nurse.
  4. Toileting/personal care/hygiene when necessary.
  5. Awareness of student-assistance protocol.
  6. Daily consultation with teachers and other service providers.
  7. Implement student behavior plans in collaboration with teacher.
  8. Assist with collecting, maintaining, and organizing data, portfolios, and/or work samples of student(s).
  9. Assist student(s) with organization of desk, homework, class work, materials.
  10. Assist special education teacher with implementation of student academic plans.
  11. Facilitate student(s) social interactions.
  12. Work with individual student/small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  13. Support student(s) inclusion in the general education setting as consistent with student’s IEP.
  14. Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Director of Special Education.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Include frequent standing, walking, stooping, climbing,

bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds; and possible exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases, depending on specific assignm
