Building-Based Substitute Teacher - Multiple Positions 

 

JOB GOAL: 

The roles of the Building-Based Substitute Teacher are to maintain classroom discipline and to carry on the classroom procedures as if he/she were the regular teacher. The Building-Based Substitute Teacher will maintain the same responsibilities and the same duties as the regular teacher, including bus duty and playground supervision. In the absence of the teacher, provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth while following any lesson plans and/or instructions left by the classroom teacher. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Minimum 48 College Credits required.  Bachelor’s preferred·  Valid teaching certificate preferred.  Minimum of 1 year experience as a substitute teacher preferred.

REPORTS TO:  Principal 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Assigned to rotate into various teaching positions in the school on a daily basis and possibly throughout the day.

Implement teacher lesson plans and administrator directives with fidelity and efficiency.

Communicate with classroom teachers and if necessary principal regarding expectations for student work, behavior, and lesson execution.

Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all students.

Ensure the teacher’s absence does not cause an interruption in classroom instruction.

Gain familiarity with district curriculum and resources.

Comply with all School COVID-19 Protocols and Procedures.

Attend and contribute in staff meetings and professional development activities.

Perform supervisory duties as assigned (such as lunch, bus, or recess duty).

Assist in development of curricular materials as assigned.

Abide by state statutes, school committee policies and regulations.

Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by principal or their designee.

Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.

Report all suspicions of abuse and/or neglect to DCYF and the principal.

Maintain confidentiality regarding students and staff personnel information.

Be a positive role model for students, support the mission of the Department.

Ability to be flexible with job assignments as needed.

Remain current on instructional practices in education (e.g. instructional technology).

Assumes responsibility for other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  School Year

SALARY:  $145 /day
