POSITION: Assistant Director of Special Education
JOB GOAL: With delegated authority from the Executive Director of Special Education to plan, organize, and direct the operation of special education programs and services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- MA DESE License as Administrator of Special Education
- Experience as special education coordinator, team chairperson, or other leadership role related to special education.
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Special Education
SUPERVISES: Primary, shared, or consultative supervision responsibilities may include:
- Special education professional staff
- Related service providers
- Paraprofessionals
- Team Chairpersons
- Administrative assistants
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interacts with parents/guardians and advocates of students with disabilities for the purpose of defining and implementing services addressing the unique needs of each qualifying student.
- Collaborates with District personnel and peers for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and/or programs.
- Coordinates program components, support needs, and materials for the purpose of delivering services which conform to established guidelines.
- Provides assistance in developing proposals, new programs, budgets and grants collaboratively as part of the Special Education and District Leadership Teams for the purpose of meeting student needs.
- Evaluates special education programs and curricula for the purpose of providing FAPE to each eligible student.
- Facilitates meetings, processes, etc. for the purpose of developing, implementing and maintaining appropriate special education services.
- Monitors assigned programs and/or projects for the purpose of complying with district and state curriculum and/or instructional objectives.
- Participates in personnel functions (e.g. recruitment, hiring, evaluations, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, matching staff to student needs and ensuring that objectives of special education programs are achieved within budget.
- Prepares written documents for the purpose of responding to inquiries, conveying information, or memorializing meetings.
- Coordinates and supervises the Extended School Year Summer Program.
- Serves as a liaison for the SEPAC and works collaboratively with the SEPAC to implement Barnstable’s SEPAC Action Plan.
- Meets regularly with the Executive Director of Special Education, Out of District Coordinator, and the Deputy Director of School Finance to review and monitor the special education budget.
- Assists with presentation of information on programs, services, regulations, etc. for the purpose of serving as a resource to families, school personnel, or the district administration.
- Supervises personnel for the purpose of assuring the development and implementation of services based on student needs.
- Provides professional development to program staff.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to drive to buildings throughout the district.
TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT: 12 Month Position (223 Work Days) BAO, 25 vacation days, and paid holidays.
