THIS IS A LONG TERM SUBSTITUTE POSITION,  FILLING IN FOR A LEAVE OF ABSENCE. 

  

JOB GOAL:
To create and sustain a flexible primary program and a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth of pupils; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge; and to evaluate their educational foundations in accordance with each child's ability.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possess appropriate certification and degree(s).
2. Has a knowledge of children based on both formal learning and/or practical experience.

REPORTS TO: Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Understands Child Growth and Development
1. Maintains responsibility for relating teaching methods and materials to the growth and development of primary age children.
2. Considers the interest level and attention spam of children in all activities.
3. Recognizes symptoms of vastly superior and iinferior pupil performance and seeks appropriate referrals.
4. Demonstrates the use of vocabulary approprite to children of the primary grades.
5. Uses known physical, mental, social and emdtional traits as a basis for learning.
6. Displays initiative and creativity in providing learning activities.

Planning Evaluating Student Learning
1. Plan for a long-range and short-range instruct onal program consistent with school/system curriculum.
a. Long-range units to be covered for the year, approximate time frame for general outcome (goal) for each unit.
b. Short-range objective(s) for present unit, weekly plan of objectives and activities.
2. Develops a one day lesson plan for substitute (activities/skills).
3. Diagnoses learning needs of students using appropriate instruments.
4. Utilizes appropriate teacher made tests to match objectives.
5. Uses results of unit assessments to continue or modify learning activities and teacher plans.
6. Maintains cognizance of system time allotments for subjects.
7. Insures that clear and timely objective interpretations are offered to parents and students on their progress.
8. Keeps appropriate records, administers and uses standardized tests, and prepares progress reports.

Classroom Management
1. Organizes the physical environment to provide for basic comfort, health and safety of children.
2. Establishes positive and consistent standards of behavior which reflect an understanding of primary-age children.
3. Conducts the routine and clerical chores with efficiency, accuracy and promptness.
4. Uses good planning and student motivation as management tools.
5. Solicits appropriately, the help of parent(s) resource staff and principal as aids to classroom management.
6. Uses the instructional program, when appropriate, to encourage citizenship and responsibility.
7. Manages class time efficiently.

Interpersonal Relationships
1. Demonstrates and reinforces mutual respect among students.
2. Uses positive reinforcement and encouragement with students.
3. Cooperates with fellow teachers, administrators and other staff to maintain a positive school and system climiate.
4. Listens and respects the opinions of other staff.
5. Communicates effectively with staff and parents.
6. Fosters tolerance and understanding of ethnic, cultural, racial and religious differences.

Professional Responsibilities
1. Participates in curriculum development or reviiew.
2. Improves and maintains professional competence through inservice, formal course work and readings.
3. Shares ideas, materials, and methods with colleagues.
4. Protects confidentiality of information about pupils.
5. Utilizes prescribed district and association channels for solving problems or grievances in a constructive manner.
6. Uses oral and written English correctly in the exercise of the professional assignment.
7. Accepts, considers and uses suggestions and ctiticisms in a responsIve manner.
8. Cooperates in the development and support of lschool and system policies.

Personal
1. Sets a strong example of good hygiene, manners and self control.
2. Displays a personal interest in students as individuals.
3. Maintains good humor, enthusiasm, initiative and integrity with students, staff and parents.
4. Cooperates with administrators, staff members, parents and pupils in developing and supporting school activities.

Other duties as assigned by the Principal.

TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT: This is a School Year position. 

SALARY: Per BTA Contract
